We are seeking motivated graduate students to join the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Kentucky (https://ees.as.uky.edu/). The Commonwealth of Kentucky has been awarded the CLIMBS project: a 5-year, $20 million National Science Foundation EPSCoR grant to advance research in climate resilience for Kentucky.

These students will be working on Project 3: safeguarding Kentucky’s water supply and building resilience to climate change. Research is mainly focused on developing water budget models for major watersheds and conducting scenario analysis to assess the impacts of climate change on water availability across Kentucky. As part of the CLIMBS project, the students will have the unique opportunity to strive in a multi-disciplinary environment interacting with a diverse research team with broad expertise in geology, hydrology, geohazards, climate, and machine learning/deep learning. Our preference is for students with a >3.0 GPA and background in hydrology or hydrogeology. Experience with surface water and/or groundwater modeling and strong programming skills are highly desirable. Strong work ethics, comfortability in a team setting, and a positive attitude are a must.

Both M.S. and Ph.D. seeking students are encouraged to contact Dr. Junfeng Zhu (email hidden; JavaScript is required) or Dr. Andrea Erhardt (email hidden; JavaScript is required) for more information. Positions are available starting in January 2025 or August 2025.
