Location: University of Minneapolis
Event Website
The UCOWR conference is a place to engage with leading researchers, educators, water managers, students, and other professionals from across the globe to seek and develop new and innovative collaborations and transdisciplinary solutions to complex water resources challenges.
CUAHSI staff members Lindsay Platt and Clara Cogswell will host a workshop.
Title: Seize the Data!: Data best practices and free open-source infrastructure to ease data sharing and reuse with CUAHSI data tools.
Description: Though not typically promoted, data and code management are essential skills for researchers in today’s data-rich world. Data management can be daunting and time consuming for researchers across career stages. CUAHSI serves the water community by developing tools and strategies that lower barriers to entry for robust data management. CUAHSI data tools such as HydroShare and our free pre-configured compute environments (Jupyterhub and MATLAB online) allow water scientists to increase the reproducibility of their results, meet data sharing requirements, and have their data cited as a true product of research, increasing collaborations and data reuse in our field. In this workshop, we will cover: 1) What is FAIR data, and why does it benefit not only you but the whole water community? How do data best practices ease this process across the data lifecycle? 2) Recommendations for organizing/managing data to work more efficiently and reproducibly throughout your research project. 3) How CUAHSI data infrastructure, from our data repository to our free cloud computing environments, enables FAIR data practices in a user friendly, easy to understand manner. These concepts and practical skills will not only make you a more responsible data creator and user, but make you a better collaborator to your future self and the water community.
