A network of mentors and peers is crucial for scientific success and academic well-being, but taking steps to build that network can be intimidating. In this seminar, attendees will hear from panelists about forging relationships, whether that be via formal collaborations or informal peer support networks. Panelists who have a track record of working and collaborating across disciplines will share strategies for identifying mentors and their strengths (mentor mapping), and share tips for collaborating on projects effectively. Participants will come away with strategies for communicating with scientists at all career stages, and develop a plan for growing their network. The seminar will highlight the importance of maintaining relationships with a diverse pool of colleagues, include advice for finding your ‘people’ at conferences, and provide insights into the logistics of collaboration and networking.
